1)	23.02.01 - OPENING SARAI
Op 23 februari opende in Delhi, India, het nieuwe media  initiatief SARAI 
haar deuren. De Waag Society is vanaf de oprichting nauw betrokken bij de 
opzet van dit nieuwe centrum. Het openingsprogramma bestond o.a. uit een 
conferentie over het Publiek Domein waaraan werd deelgenomen door een keur 
aan internationale media-experts.Floor van Spaendonck van Waag Society 
presenteerde het online magazine van SARAI. In dit magazine worden actuele 
verslagen, achtergronden en discussies gepubliceerd.

Afgelopen september is het Waag - SARAI exchange programma van start 
gegaan. In de komende twee jaar vindt een serie workshops plaats, zowel in 
India als in Nederland, met de bedoeling de expertises van SARAI en de Waag 
elkaar te laten informeren en de banden tussen de  Nederland en 
Zuid-Aziatische mediapraktijk te versterken.

2)	09.03.01 - LOST & FOUND
Na een avond in het Planetarium van Artis tijdens het Holland Festival 
2000, vond op 9 februari Lost & Found weer plaats in de Waag. Lost & Found 
is een serie presentaties van verloren gewaande beelden en geluiden, die na 
afloop veelal onmiddellijk weer zoekraken. Presentatoren waren o.a. Fiona 
Tan (Totenklage Lacriomosa), Ine Poppe (Moedermelkkaasjes) en Viktor & Rolf 
(Wintercollectie '98)  Een compleet overzicht van de titels en makers vanaf 
1997 is nu beschikbaar op een website:  http://www.lost.nl

Zozeer snakte het Lost & Found publiek naar nieuw materiaal, dat op 9 
februari om half negen 's avonds de rij bezoekers van de toreningang voor 
het Theatrum Anatomicum reikte tot aan Cafe Cuba op de Nieuwmarkt.
Op 9 maart vindt de volgende Lost & Found plaats. Zoals gewoonlijk is 
reserveren niet mogelijk.

3) 	21.06.01- METATAG; eerste aankondiging
Op 21 juni 2001 brengt de Waag het eerste nummer uit van METATAG; 
tijdschrift voor technologie en cultuur. Metatag is een journalistieke 
veldverkenning vanuit de expertise van de Waag: design, communicatie en 
media op het kruisvlak van technologie en cultuur.
De redactionele opzet is een mix van essayistische artikelen, visuele 
portfolios en persoonlijke reflecties.
Het blad zal uitkomen bij Uitgeverij BIS in een vormgeving van 
Mevis&VanDeursen.

4)	30.03.01 - DEBAT ELECTRONISCHE GEMEENSCHAPSDIENSTEN AMSTERDAM

UPC is contractueel verplicht om 10% van haar Amsterdamse bandbreedte 
beschikbaar te stellen voor gemeenschapsdiensten. Als gevolg van de 
digitalisering van de media wordt met gemeenschapsdiensten inmiddels meer 
dan alleen de doorgifte via radio en tv bedoeld. Over wat anno 2001 onder 
gemeenschapsdiensten moet worden verstaan en hoe er invulling gegeven moet 
worden aan het gebruik van de informatiestromen, wordt op 30 maart in de 
Waag gedebatteerd.

De discussie zal met name ingaan op de vraag hoe het nieuwe stelsel moet 
worden ingericht om het publieksbereik van dergelijke initiatieven zo groot 
mogelijk te maken.

Aanwezigen zijn o.a. Wethouder Cultuur, Telecommunicatie en Media Saska 
Bruines alsmede de commissie van advies inzake Cultuur, Telecommunicatie en 
Media. Sprekers zijn o.a. Egon Verharen (Innovatiemanager Surfnet), Erik 
van der Schaft (Directeur SALTO) en Justin Kniest (Producer /

5)	PILOOT

Drempels weg!
Tijdens de openingsmanifestatie van 'Drempels weg!', een conferentie voor 
alle partijen in de gehandicaptenzorg, geeft projectleider Sander Hooreman 
een presentatie van PILOOT. Dit is de online webomgeving voor mensen met 
een verstandelijke handicap die ontwikkeld wordt door Waag Labs.
De conferentie is een initiatief van het Ministerie van VWS om het inzicht 
te vergroten in de mogelijkheden van het World Wide Web voor mensen met een 
handicap.

Op de site van PILOOT is informatie opgenomen over het ontwikkeltraject tot 
nu toe en het scenario voor de nabije toekomst van het product. PILOOT is 
een online agenda, logboek en berichtenservice die gebaseerd is op de 
visuele methode van 'totale communicatie'. Het gebruik van deze online 
omgeving maakt het mensen met een verstandelijke handicap gemakkelijker om 
zelfstandig te leven. Een van de bijzondere kenmerken van PILOOT is dat het 
in nauwe samenspraak met de gebruikers is ontwikkeld.

6)	KEYSTROKE TIJDENS WIRETAP

Aan de hand van een live demo tussen Rotterdam en New York City tonen Sher 
Doruff, Niels Bogaards en Eric Redlinger de mogelijkheden die KeyStroke 
biedt voor collectieve audio-visuele performances over het net.
De KeyStroke demonstratie vindt plaats in het programma 
Transurban  connections van Wiretap waarin ingegaan zal worden op het 
fenomeen van de virtuele gemeenschap.

1)	23.02.01 - OPENING SARAI
The new media initiative SARAI opened its doors in Delhi, India on 23 
February. The centre was developed in close association with the Waag 
Society. A host of international new media experts took part in the 
conference on the Public Domain which was part of the opening programme. 
Floor van Spaendonck of the Waag Society presented the online SARAI 
magazine.  In it current reports, background features and comments will be 
published. The online magazine will also host discussions.

In September 2000 the SARAI - WAAG exchange programme was started up. Over 
the next two years a series of workshops will be organized in which the 
expertise of SARAI and Waag Society will be matched. The exchange programme 
aims to strengthen the ties between Dutch and South Asia cultural media 
practice. Locations of the workshops are Amsterdam and Delhi.

2) 	09.03.01 - LOST & FOUND
Lost & Found returned to the Waag on 9 February after a night at the Artis 
Planetarium last spring. In this series lost sounds and images are 
presented to a critical but committed audience, which accepts that the 
stuff they hear and see is mostly lost again immediately after a Lost & 
Found night. Presenters at previous events were a.o. Fiona Tan (Totenklage 
Lacrimosa), Ine Poppe (Recepy for Mothermilk Cheese) and Viktor & Rolf 
(Winter collection '98). A complete list of presented work since the start

The Lost & Found audience were so eager for new material that at 8.30pm on 
9 February a queue was formed reaching from the entrance door of the 
Theatrum Anatomicum to Cafe Cuba on the Nieuwmarkt.

The next Lost & Found is on 9 March. As usual, there's no advance ticket 
booking.

3)	21.06.01 - METATAG: first announcement
The first issue of METATAG; magazine for culture and technology will come 
out at 21 June. It explores the field of expertise in which the Waag 
operates; design, communications and media at the intersection between 
culture and technology. METATAG will offer a mix of essays, visual 
portfolios and personal reflections.
The magazine will be published by BIS in a lay-out by Mevis & Van Deursen.

4)	30.03.01 - DEBATE ELECTRONIC COMMUNITY SERVICES AMSTERDAM
UPC - the Amsterdam cable provider - is legally bound to offer 10% of its 
bandwidth to community services. As media are increasingly digitized, 
community services include more than broadcasting via radio and television. 
At 30 March, a debate will be held at the Waag about the new meaning of 
community services and how the various streams of information should be used.

In particular the discussion will focus on what the new broadcasting scheme 
should look like to maximize its audience appeal.

The debate will be attended by a.o. alderwoman Culture, Telecommunications 
and Media Saskia Bruines and the advisory body for Culture, 
Telecommunications and Media. Speakers include Egon Verharen (Innovation 
Manager Surfnet), Erik van der Schaft (Director SALTO) and Justin Kniest 
(Producer/Co-initiator Fabchannel). Chair: Marleen Stikker (Director Waag 
Society).

The debate is by invitation only. A live netcast of the debate will be

5)	PILOOT
"Away with thresholds!"
Project leader of PILOOT Sander Hooreman will present the project at the 
opening day of 'Away with thresholds!'", a conference for all parties 
involved in health care for people with a disability. PILOOT is an online 
webenvironment developed by Waag Labs for use by people with a mental 
disability.
The conference is an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare 
and Sport (VWS). Its aim is to knowledge-enhancement of the possibilities 
the World Wide Web offers to people with a disability.

The newly launched website of PILOOT gives access to information on the 
development process so far and the scenario of the future course of the 
project. PILOOT is an online diary, logbook and messages service which is 
based on the visual method of 'total communication'. It supports people 
with a mental disability in living more independently. One of PILOOT's 
special features is that it is developed in close communication with the 
users: "users as designers".

6)	23.03.01 - KEYSTROKE AT WIRETAP
Sher Doruff, Niels Bogaards and Eric Redlinger will give a live demo of 
KeyStroke between Rotterdam and New York City for the Wiretap programme of 
V2_organisation.
The demo will show the possibilities KeyStroke has for collective 
audiovisual performing over the net.
